What Are EPA and DHA?

EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are omega-3 fatty acids, a type of polyunsaturated fat. In our diets, they come mainly from oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines and herring.

Fish make very little EPA and DHA themselves. They are bioaccumulators: they build these fats up in their bodies by eating algae, or smaller fish that have eaten algae. So the EPA and DHA in fish oil ultimately comes from algae. This product uses fish oil.
